Theme: When, if ever, is
violence necessary?
Choose an issue related to the above theme (ie. Guns, domestic violence, violence in
schools, gangs, etc.) and write an essay: personal narrative or reflective.
(Extra-Credit if focus is teen or child related = 10% of score)
Requirements
- Length: Up to 5 pages.
- Paper Structure
- Introduction Paragraph- engaging opening, ending with a thesis statement.
- Body Paragraphs (one or more)- Present your point of view and support thesis statement
with examples. May be a narrative.
- Conclusion Paragraph- mirrors the introduction paragraph.
- Use at least one example from each of the following:
- the book, including page number,
- national or local news, title of article,
- your life.
- Before or after an example, explain how it relates to your idea.
- Include a photo copy of the article and book page with cited information highlighted.
- With the publication copy (typed), turn in the following:
- Outline or Cluster diagram
- 1st Draft with revision notes for content development, engaging opening and
closing.
- 2nd Draft with revision notes for grammar and transitions between paragraphs.
- This cover sheet.
- Email a copy of the publication piece as an attached file to jmc2ocla@moa.net
Timetable
- Outline and 1st draft are due Friday, December 18, 1998.
- Two Revisions completed by the 1st Wednesday after break.
- Publication Drafts (including emailed copy) due by the 1st Friday after
break.
